When it comes to hitches and towing products, we understand that there is a vast array of products and brands on the market. We do not make our product decisions based on market share or margins, as some retailers do. Our decisions in this category are based on our experiences with the products, in-house product comparisons (including quality of product, overall value, and functionality), and our knowledge about the manufacturers.

Why would you consider purchasing a weight distributing / sway control hitch? They are not just for towing on windy days. Every time you pass a vehicle, wind turbulence affects your vehicle. When you are towing a trailer, this effect is increased substantially. A sway control or weight distributing hitch adds both comfort and safety to your towing experience.

There are certain hitches that I will not sell because they are either unsafe or completely impractical. For example, when a customer comes in asking me for the most expensive friction sway control on the market, I explain to them that they would be wasting their money, because the friction concept is no different on the $800 hitch than it is on the $280 hitch. The design that practically everyone in the industry copied is 70 years old and hasn't changed.
I grew up with the attitude that the high priced hitches in the industry were over-rated - and for the most part they are. But when we started selling new campers, I began making a LOT of trips back and forth to Indiana to pick them up myself - generally in bad weather and over the winter. After doing substantial research, I came across the Blue Ox Sway Pro. It was one of very very few hitches that I had not used previously. In using it, I liked it immediately. However, the thing that made me go from liking to loving that hitch was the first time I got into 50 mph side winds. The stability was incredible! And, I could cruise down the interstate at 65-70 while I was watching other transporters pull off the road because they couldn't handle their load anymore. Other manufacturers have tried to copycat the torsion sway control design of the Blue Ox Sway Pro, but hands down, there is not another hitch on the market that even comes close to how well this hitch functions. It is a bit on the expensive side, which is why I always explain that it is not a hitch for everyone. For the customer that pulls their camper an hour away at most, it might not be the most cost-effective option. However, if you value comfort and stability while traveling down the road, you will not regret the investment.
