Pie irons - what an accessory to have an opinion on! Jim carries Rome Pie Irons because it is true cast iron. Many other brands of pie irons use aluminum. These are not as durable, and can melt or warp if put on coals, as aluminum has a low melting point. Others use thin pot metal, which heats very unevenly. Cast iron heats evenly with no hot spots, can handle ll the heat coals can muster, and develops its own non-stick seasoned finish over time.

Be careful where you purchase Rome Pie Irons, however. Many big-box stores will contract with different manufacturers to purchase a sub-standard version of their product that the big-box store can then sell at a lower price than their competitors.
