Are all batteries the same? Why do you need a battery, and how does it work?
A lot of people don't know that there are only 3 major automotive and marine battery manufacturers, and that all of the brands you see on the market are simply re-branded for different companies. One of the most well-known names in batteries happens to be one of the worst batteries on the market - they are just very good at marketing! The batteries we stock and sell have been made by Johnson Controls, the top battery manufacturer in the aftermarket.
As most of the systems in your camper require 12V power for operation, a good battery is key. The reason may surprise you. As convenient as it is for operations to have 12V power when you are not hooked up to shore power, that's not the most important reason.
When plugged into shore power, your power converter produces 12V current. In producing 12V current, it also sends "dirty" voltage into the 12V system. Essentially, dirty voltage is alternating current (AC) in a 12V direct current (DC system. Your battery acts like a sponge to this dirty voltage from your power converter, preventing the dirty voltage from traveling through your camper's 12V system. This protects your 12V system from the dirty voltage, which can be very harmful to the many delicate electronics in your camper, such as circuit boards. Having a good quality, working battery at all times protects your camper.
